Testing the performance of VID-345 Flaw Detector and 281M Crack Depth Meter at PAO “Gazprom” facilities
The Research and Manufacturing company "Mashproject" sent the VID-345 Flaw Detector and 281M Crack Depth Meter to PAO "Gazprom" company to test them and receive data for its research work.
The VID-345 flaw detector was used to check the pipeline section with no preliminary surface treatment. As a result, the NDT inspectors noted the following advantages of the device:
- The case with the sewn-in magnets and a cuff for attaching the equipment to the arm kept both inspectors' hands free, which allowed them to place the device vertically to the side surface of the pipe.
- Magnetic anomalies have a small effect on VID-345 performance. The defect depth was measured with high reliability.
- The device can operate in low-temperature environments. One single battery load was enough for full shift time (8 hours) with the display turned on. The temperature was around -20 °C...-25 °C (4 - 13 degrees below Fahrenheit).
According to the experts that used the detector, there is a potential in what has to do with monitoring the change in the air gap (thickness of the coating) during insulation reapplication process.
