Test: measuring the hardness of pipelines details material

Customer: a company that produces stainless steel piping parts – flanges, elbows, fasteners, transitions, plugs, tees, and other products of this kind.

Description of the goals and the current way to achieve them: perform test on produced parts, the medium weight of around 2 kg (2,2 lb). The client is running selective tests with a stationary hardness tester in a friendly laboratory right now. He is going to recalculate readings obtained with the UCI hardness tester.

Demonstration: after considering the task given by the customer, our professionals took the TKM-359CE Leeb hardness tester and the UCI hardness tester TKM-459CE ("Universal" kit) with them, as both instruments' settings include scales designated to measure stainless steel. There is no need to make any additional adjustments.

We ran the tests in the client's office premisses on the following samples:

  • stainless steel flange 12Х18Н10Т with a diameter equal to 215 mm and the weight equivalent to 4,7 kg (8,8 lb)
  • stainless steel flange 12Х18Н10Т with a diameter equal to 160 mm and the weight equivalent to 2,2 kg (4,4 lb)
  • stainless steel flange 12Х18Н10Т with a diameter equal to 139,7 mm

The expected hardness rate of all items checked was 235 HB, the resulting data of the demonstration tests showed 229 HB.

Conclusion: the customer was contented with the experiment results and has chosen our TKM-359CE Leeb hardness tester.
